From Jack of All Trades to Master Of One
"Jack of all trades, a master of none" is a phrase I used to hide in the shadow of Resistance. Perhaps it's my Saturn Return (everyone goes through this astrological transit between the ages of 27–31, a time in which one is initiated into adulthood through a major career shift, marriage, the birth of a child, the death of a family member, or any kind of serious event that would shape an individual for the next 30 years) because I no longer want to bask in that phrase. In the words of Steven Pressfield, I think I'm on the cusp of "turning pro".
In 2023 I launched several projects: the Philosopreneur podcast, Integrate This clothing brand, and The Deep Now newsletter. However, my main line of work was supposed to be Numinous Realm a company I co-founded with Abeer Desai. I began my journey with Numinous Realm in late 2019 while I was in graduate school learning and researching Archetypal Cosmology. I came on as a co-founder in 2021 and began my research and development of the HistoryEngine, a proprietary prediction-production tool we're building. While research of deep history has been the crux of Numinous Realm's DNA, Abeer and I always knew fashion would be the commercial arm and that is how Integrate This was born. At the time, we were holding off on using Numinous Realm as the brand name because we weren't sure if we wanted the HistoryEngine to be separated or integrated with the clothing line, mainly because we were considering raising a round. Integrate This was still deeply connected to Numinous Realm and utilizing its HistoryEngine to create designs.
As for Philosopreneur, it's been my baby for a couple of years. My final master's presentation was titled "The Age of the Philosopreneur" in which I presented the need for both philosophy and entrepreneurship to be integrated to usher in the new phase of consciousness in the evolutionary cycle which I proposed to be an Integral mode of consciousness.
As mathematician and philosopher Alfred North Whitehead said: “To sustain a civilization with the intensity of its first ardour requires more than learning. Adventure is essential, namely, the search for new perfections. Thus Commerce is one central factor, essential for a prosperous civilization [...] The central factor is Commerce; and more than that, it is Commerce developed adventurously.” So I launched the Philosopreneur podcast last year, publishing one episode a month. The goal was to dialogue with folks who were embracing the life of a philosopreneur and to spread this worldview with more people.
As my journey on X unfolded I learned that launching a newsletter was the next step. So along with my pinned thread, I announced the launch of The Deep Now newsletter in which I would write about the archetypal cycles governing our world from politics to fashion. I sent these out twice a month, on New Moon and Full Moon. And then I took a major pause in February as I was getting married and traveling the world with my hubby, Abeer.
When we arrived back in NYC in April, we began preparing for Integrate This' next launch. And I was also re-emerging from my Philosopreneur and The Deep Now hiatus. At the same time, Valerie Rojas joined Numinous Realm as an intern and contributor to The Deep Now. This was a super exciting moment! Valerie was our first customer for Integrate This and a big supporter of the newsletter. After I gave her an archetypal reading in August she initiated herself into the archetypal cosmos and has become wholeheartedly obsessed with sharing this worldview. Abeer and I were stoked to work with someone we met and inspired on X!
Just 2 weeks into her internship, Valerie made a huge contribution: she provided customer feedback and told us all the different brand names (Numinous Realm, Integrate This, Philosopreneur, The Deep Now) created a lot of confusion. This was something Abeer had warned me about early on as well, but my "jack of all trades, master of none" mindset was too stubborn to listen. It took an outsider's (customer) perspective to change my mind. I think I can safely say both my Indian and Japanese cultures have ingrained a great lesson into me: Customer is God.
So with that, we've officially decided to focus on ONE THING. And that is Numinous Realm. The Integrate This clothing line will be diluted into Numinous Realm, and The Deep Now newsletter is turning into a Numinous Realm magazine with three full-time contributors (Abeer, Valerie, and myself). As for Philosopreneur, I'm putting a pause on that as well. Instead, I'll be focused on producing great content for Numinous Realm. In some way, rather than talking about being a philosopreneur, I'll actually be living it. Furthermore, my astrology readings in the form of consultations will also be held under Numinous Realm. Thanks to Valerie for helping us narrow down to the ONE THING.
Numinous Realm.
This logo was designed by Abeer––it is a shrine for the planets, the vast mystery that imbues our world.
It is a symbol of numinosity: that which is marked by the presence of divinity.
We're launching our magazine this week! I will share more details on that tomorrow.
So excited for this new, focused, and thrilling journey. Can't wait to take all of you on this cosmic mystery ride with us!
This post was to remind myself that the breadth of life can be found in the depth of life.
If you find yourself launching many projects, not able to focus on one, then take a moment to reflect and discover which ONE will have the capacity to hold all aspects of your psyche and enable you to create from the intersection of depth and breadth.
