The Role of an Astrologer
Which of the two people concerned–the analyst or the dreamer–will dominate the other? I gave up hypnotic treatment for this very reason, because I did not want to impose my will on others. I wanted the healing processes to grow out of the patient's own personality, not from suggestions by me that would have only a passing effect. My aim was to protect and preserve my patient's dignity and freedom, so that he could live his life according to his own wishes.
–Carl Jung, Man and His Symbols
This is why I tend not to give concrete predictions in my astrology readings. Rather, every session focuses on exploring the psychological dynamics present in the client's chart and how they can cultivate these energies more deeply and/or work through the shadow material that has manifested in their lives. No human being should dictate another's life. The role of the astrologer is to unveil the archai (first principles) of the psyche and educate (the etymology of "educate" means to "lead out") the client on their own creative capacity. In other words, the astrologer's role is to help ignite untapped creativity in the client.
