Sexual Revolution 3.0

This is a response to the following X post:

1960s: sexual revolution and free love movement

1990s: the term “polyamory” was coined

2010s: dating apps led to a new sexual revolution, specifically with open relationships

What do these decades have in common? An angular alignment between Uranus and Pluto.

On the Uranus-Pluto cycle, founder of Archetypal Cosmology, Richard Tarnas writes:

“The resulting archetypal complex seemed to express itself quite dramatically during those specific historical eras in which Uranus and Pluto were in axial alignment, as evidenced by such phenomena as widespread radical social and political change and often destructive upheaval, massive empowerment of revolutionary and rebellious impulses, and intensified artistic and intellectual creativity. Other distinctive themes of these historical periods included unusually rapid technological advance, an underlying spirit of restless experiment, drive for innovation, urge for freedom in many realms, revolt against oppression, embrace of radical political philosophies, and intensified collective will to bring forth a new world. These impulses and events were typically mixed with massive demographic shifts and a general ambiance of fervent, often violent intensity combined with the excitement of moving rapidly towards new horizons.”

Pluto represents our Dionysian instincts and Uranus symbolizes our Promethean urge for freedom. So sexual liberation as a theme tends to rise to the surface of the collective psyche during Uranus-Pluto periods.

The 60s saw a Uranus-Pluto conjunction (0 degree alignment) which is usually the most potent.

The 90s saw a Uranus-Pluto sextile (60 degree alignment) which is usually considered to be quite subtle and not as loud as the conjunction.

The 2010s saw a Uranus-Pluto square (90 degree alignment) which is considered to be a hard aspect and could come with more tension than the conjunction.

And now, in the 2020s we are participating in a Uranus-Pluto trine (120 degree alignment) which is considered to be softer and more harmonious than the square. The last time Uranus-Pluto were in a trine was in the 1920s.

However, what I’d like to point out, especially in relation to this thread, is the current Saturn-Neptune world transit which generally coincides with a religious quality. You can read my Numinous Realm article on “God Is Not Dead” to learn more about this. Saturn and Neptune came into alignment (conjunction) this year and will end its transit in 2027. While the Uranus-Pluto trine began in 2021 and will be transiting until 2032.

So what I find interesting is that @MrsDCtheCapital and her husband are reflecting an aspect of the zeitgeist: the Uranus-Pluto alignment (sexual liberation) with the Saturn-Neptune alignment (religious devotion). Paradoxical for most people to grasp, but with an archetypal perspective it seems rather intriguing.

Though I must state, I personally do not agree with the polyamorous or polygynous lifestyle.
